November Instrumental News Mrs Haider
November News from Instrumental Music Upper Bells had a chance to play for Rosary the 11th. They chose to play a song which was not part of their r program which was exciting. I was proud of them.
Our program November 15th went so nicely. All the students performed at their best and it was a great opportunity for parents to see and hear all the skills these students are learning. A huge thanks to all who helped. No matter how it was greatly appreciated by me and by the students. It takes a team to do any type of presentation and we certainly have that here at St Joseph. Students at all levels now will focus on gaining more skills and music and of course play some more seasonal music which all the students enjoy.
The opportunity is still available for to sign up for contemporary Recorders. I have no one signed up at this time so I will not order materials unless that changes.
Just a reminder for some parents who may have missed Octobers payments. I hope you will remember to add that to your November payment or talk to me so that I can work with you soon.
New Group offering CONTEMPORARY RECORDERS Designed for 3rd grade pre-band experience Parents after visiting with your children today there are several who have expressed an interence in Contemporary Recorders designed for preband. You should have received the information with your parent teacher conference information on the new contemporary recorder group. I was hoping for a November 14th sign up date which has now passed. This is a fun entirely new experience which will also serve as pre-band requisite for students who have not had piano or bells who might want to play an instrument in 4th grade. Please consider this group as a music enhancement for your child. This group may also become an on going group if they so choose. I am hoping for at least 4 or 5 to make the group for reading staff and rhythm. As of this week I have no students signed up so I will not be ordering music at this time. Please consider this experience for enhancing your childs music experience. I will have recorders for students who don't have one. Call or e-mail me after visiting with your child. If finances are a problem please visit with me as well. Don't deny the experience for that reason alone. I would like to have4 to start. Are you willing to have your student be one of the first 4 to experience this new fun group.

Vocal Music Paige Harpin
Hello there! It’s hard to believe that we are a month into school! We have been doing a lot of learning in music class so far…
Kindergarten
We have been working on developing a steady beat through various songs, games, and movements. We have also been exploring our four voices: singing, speaking, shouting, and whisper voice. We have also been learning many songs for the enjoyment of singing!
First and Second Grade
The first and second graders have done a tremendous job retaining the knowledge they gained last year about music. We continue to practice using our best singing voices and maintain a steady beat in various tempos. We have been working on solfege patterns focusing on the pitches sol and mi. The first and second graders are officially rhythmic pros, they have done such a good job identifying and dictating rhythms.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade
In third, fourth, and fifth grade we have been working on folk songs, spirituals, and contemporary songs as well. We have been working on traditional folk dances. We have also been doing some more advanced work exploring pentatonic, major, and minor scales. We have been working on proper vocal technique and following cues from a conductor. The fifth graders are currently working on their conducting patterns. They will surely be conducting full orchestras in no time J!
Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade
The middle school grades are finishing up a project on Famous Jazz Musicians. They have done a great job with this. We will continue our jazz unit aligned with performing through singing and instruments in class. We will also be incorporating guitars in class as well. Students are welcome to bring guitars from home if they would like. If they are left at school, they will be secured in a safe place. The middle school students are also responsible for being song leaders for our weekly all school mass. I encourage all students to try to do it at least once. I am so impressed with the initiative and the great leadership that our students do with this.
